Jordan's trip to Children's

We took Jordan today to Children's to see the ENT and for once the appointment had nothing to do with ears :-) Jordan is tongue tied and will need to have his tongue clipped on June 16th. He will need to be put under and it will take all of 10 min, if that long. We want to take care of this before he starts developing speech. It is a minor out patient surgery, but still scary for daddy and mommy.

Normally, being tongue tied would cause a baby to have trouble nursing, but not Jordan. He figured out how to nurse even with the problem with his tongue. Way to go Jordan!!

He has not had problems gaining weight, he was 19lbs, 4 oz at his appointment on Tuesday.
Jordan is such a ladies man, he is always willing to flash that million dollar smile that just melts you. Look out world, he is going to be a heart breaker!

Update on Allison's implant

Allison is doing a great job adjusting to the new implant. This morning we did some testing with just her right side and she was able to hear all of the "ling" sounds ( those who do AV therapy will know all about those) :-) What a great encouragement that we did the right thing. We are so happy with her progress. It is hard to believe that just 3 short years ago, we were at the start of this process and now we are getting ready to send her to Kindergarten in the fall, in a typical oral classroom. How far she has come!! I remember just waiting for her to say her 1st word, which by the way was "help", she wanted to go outside and play, but did not have her shoes on. She sat on the steps and said it clear as day. Of course I cried like a baby, but it was such a special moment. Now at times we have to ask her not to talk so much and let her brother get a word in.
I guess we as parents all have those moments, when we wait for them to walk and talk and then we want them to sit down and be quiet. The joy of being a parent. :-)

Family News

Today, Allison had her 2nd appointment for her 2nd implant. She has adjusted amazingly well, the biggest problem has been trying to find a way to keep it on her ear. I guess we not only have to train her brain, but also her ear to wear the implant pieces. We have a mold being made, so hopefully that will solve the problem.
She was able to hear at about 40 dc today in the sound booth, which is a big improvement over the 70 that we got last week. She still does not easily accept taking the left side off-she really enjoys hearing. :-)

On another note, Jared lost his 2nd tooth. Once again, he swallowed it. The tooth fairy is getting tired of paying out and not getting anything in return.

Soon we will have a G.I. Joe or should I say G.I. Jordan. He is really close to taking off with the army crawl. We will be missing the days, when we could put Jordan in one spot and he would stay there.

Activation Day

Allison's 2nd implant was activated today. She did really well, but got tired of not hearing out of the 1st one. Her audiologist was able to get her to 70 dc in the booth before she had enough and wanted to put her other "ear" on. They will slowly turn it up, so hopefully she will hear just as well out of the right side as she does the left. Our next appointment is May 19th.
She will need to spend time during the day with just the right side on to train her brain and ear to hear and interrupt the sounds. This will be an adjustment for her because of only using 1 side for the past 3 years. We know it will take some time, but the rewards are so great.
Thank you for your prayers for Allison as she adjusts to this new phase in her life.

Jordan

You got to love baby smiles. Jordan is growing up so fast. I can't believe he will be 8 months old in just a few weeks. He has mastered sitting up, rolling over in both directions and is really starting to babble, his favorite is "da da da", I told Bill not to get too excited because Jordan really does not know what he is saying. If you look really close you can see Jordan's first 2 teeth, more are on the way.

Jared's Party

Jared had a great party. He wanted a sports theme, so Bill and I attempted to make a football cake. We don't think we did half bad, for the 1st attempt at it. Don't you just love the chipmunk cheek picture of Jared blowing out the candle.
